It is no surprise that startups are receiving increased attention and resources from corporations who are looking for early stage companies to help solve their problems in new and innovative ways. Here are four models that are working for both corporations and the startups around the GAN community.
1.) Corporate Accelerators – Sprint Accelerator and Envestnet|Yodlee Fintech Incubator are great examples of how large organizations are breaking the mold to run their own startup accelerator programs on their own terms with an emphasis on doing meaningful business with startups.
2.) Innovation Labs – Comcast announced earlier this year Lift Labs, which will be part accelerator (run by Techstars and BoomTown accelerator teams) and part entrepreneur resource center focused on meeting startups where they are with the resources they need.
3.) Startup-Friendly Products – Companies like SendGrid built a startup-friendly product along with an entire Community Development Team focused on helping startups grow their business through great email strategy. Many GAN accelerator programs and their cohorts of startups have benefitted from the SendGrid Community Development Team’s mentorship, product and expertise.
4.) Internal Startup Motivation – Mastercard has a dedicated program for their employees to launch a startup idea and product internally with help from subject matter experts on their global team. Mastercard also has a corporate fintech accelerator program that is accepting applications now!
As startups mature so too are the ways corporations are structuring their startup engagement programs. Over the last few years these programs have not only grown but evolved and will continue to do so. The future holds some very compelling and innovative partnerships.
